How to Choose the Right Preschool Session Time for Your Family
When you're enrolling your child in preschool, the program matters — but so does the time. Choosing the right session block can mean the difference between a child who arrives energized and engaged, and one who's tired before the day even begins.
At I.HHWWA Preschool, we offer four session times to give Edmonton families real flexibility. Here's how to think through which one fits your family best.
Know Your Child's Natural Rhythm
Every child has a peak energy window. Some 3–5 year olds are bright-eyed and ready to learn at 8:30 AM. Others need an hour or two to warm up before they're truly present. Pay attention to when your child is most curious, most talkative, and most willing to try new things — that's your window.
Morning sessions (8:30 AM or 10:30 AM) work well for early risers who are alert and engaged before lunch. These sessions also leave the afternoon free for naps, errands, or family time.
Afternoon sessions (1:30 PM or 3:30 PM) suit children who take longer to get going, or families with morning commitments like work drop-offs, younger siblings' schedules, or medical appointments.
Consider Your Household Logistics
Preschool pickup and drop-off is a daily commitment. Before choosing a session, think through your work schedule, younger siblings' routines, commute to 5359 Calgary Trail NW, and how much energy your child has after a session.
The 8:30 AM Session: For the Early Birds
This session suits families who are already up and moving early. Children arrive fresh, the day's learning happens before lunch fatigue sets in, and you have the full afternoon ahead.
The 10:30 AM Session: The Sweet Spot
For many families, 10:30 AM is the ideal balance — late enough for a relaxed morning routine, early enough to be home for lunch and an afternoon rest. This is often the most popular session.
The 1:30 PM Session: Post-Lunch Learning
If your child naps in the morning or your family's schedule runs later, the 1:30 PM session offers a natural fit. Children who have eaten and rested often arrive calm and ready to focus.
The 3:30 PM Session: Late Afternoon
The 3:30 PM session is ideal for families who need morning flexibility — whether for work, other children, or appointments. It also works well for children who are naturally more active and social in the late afternoon.
One More Thing: Availability
With only 5 spots per session, not every time slot will be available when you register. Checking live seat availability on the IHHWWA website before you register helps you plan — and registering early gives you the best chance of securing your preferred time.
